Alcohol Healthwatch have announced the launch of their new platform, Pass the Bill, in partnership with Hāpai te Hauora. Pass the Bill aims to raise awareness of the need for stronger alcohol laws and to support communities and organisations to have their say on the Sale and Supply of Alcohol (Harm Minimisation) Amendment Bill.
Alcohol Healthwatch say “This evidence-based Bill is an opportunity to build the momentum and supportive environment for alcohol law change. We support the intent of the Bill to give communities a greater say on where and when alcohol is sold (via removing the appeals process from local alcohol policies) and to end alcohol sponsorship of broadcast sport. Whilst we would love the Bill to go further (and recognise some provisions/definitions may need refining at the Select Committee stage), we see this as an important opportunity for raising awareness, building community action, and showcasing the wide public support for change. This will also assist in any public consultation with regards to the upcoming review of our alcohol laws.”
